On Wednesday at Utah Valley University, conservative political advocate Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at a public debate event as part of his "American Comeback Tour". He was 31-years old.
Charlie Kirk was known for his passionate activism for conservative causes and his support for President Donald Trump. He is credited with being instrumental in acquiring the young male vote for Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential Election. He co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and served as its executive director.
The shot rang out in the crowd, causing the hundreds of listeners to disperse in fear. The video is below, though readers should be aware, the content is graphic and disturbing:
Charlie Kirk was a controversial political figure, with many supporters on the right side, and aggravating plenty of people on the left. However, both sides are coming together in an outcry against political violence.
"I don’t even know how to begin to put into words the loss I am feeling right now over the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Charlie wasn’t just a friend — he was like a little brother to me — and to millions of people around the world — he was a true inspiration." -Donald Trump, Jr.
“The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form.” -Gavin Newsom
"Charlie inspired millions and tonight all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror. Charlie is a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loves so much, the United States of America." -Donald Trump
“Let me be clear: Political violence has no place in America. I condemn this act, and we all must work together to ensure this does not lead to more violence.” -Kamala Harris
A manhunt is still underway for the assassin. The FBI initially had two suspects in custody, but after questioning, they were both later released. The investigation continues amidst an outpouring of support mixed with flurries of blame.
Kirk is survived by his wife of four years, Erika Frantzve, as well as a son and a daughter.
