On Thursday morning, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested at his home following a raid. He is officially charged with suspicion of misconduct in public office, in connection to his ties to American financier and sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein.
He was arrested at approximately 8:00 AM local time (3:00 AM EST).
The 66-year-old disgraced former-royal was the second son and third child of Queen Elizabeth II. Over the past few years, he has been slowly stripped of his royal titles, such as Duke of York, as more information surfaced about his close, friendly relationship with Epstein. The final rescindment came when on November 3, 2025, King Charles III stripped Andrew of his remaining titles, including "His Royal Highness," and "Prince."
In the years since Epstein's death, he has stated that he regrets his friendship with the American financier, but continues to deny any wrongdoing. He has not commented on the latest releases of the 'Epstein Files' by the United States Justice Department.
Andrew has since been released after being held for hours in the Aylsham Police Station, where he was booked, informed of his legal rights, and likely interrogated by officers.
Of the arrest, President Donald Trump commented:
I think it’s a shame. I think it’s very sad. I think it’s so bad for the royal family. It’s very, very sad to me. It’s a very sad thing when I see that." -President Donald Trump
The president has expressed his sympathies for King Charles III, and further expressed his eagerness for the monarch's planned upcoming visit to the United States, likely to occur in April, according to CNN.
Andrew's relationship with Epstein was the plot of the 2024 drama miniseries A Very Royal Scandal about his 2019 interview where he defended his relationship with Epstein, which caused such backlash that he stepped away from public duties.
Andrew remains under investigation following his release, and denies all allegations against him.
