Fans have long desired to see director Paul Thomas Anderson with golden glory, and they were treated to that desire when he won for Best Director.
Summer’s favorite horror, Sinners, from director Ryan Coogler, claimed Best Original Score for its creative blend of 1920s folk and blues mixed with eerie atmosphere and suspenseful drawl.
This year’s ceremony saw satisfying wins for Hollywood favorites. Timothée Chalamet won his first Golden Globe for Best Actor (Musical/Comedy) for the his titular role in Marty Supreme, the film about 1950s table tennis icon directed by Josh Safdie.
On the television side, this year’s Emmy favorites continued to collect gold. The Pitt and The Studio both winning the top prizes and Best Actor in their respective categories. Adolescence, also, continued smashing records with its wins for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Limited Series.
The Golden Globes continue to add categories to their lineup. Two years ago, they established the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award, previously won by Barbie and Wicked. This year, they created a category so unique it’s the first of its kind in a major Hollywood award show: Best Podcast. Veteran comedic actress Amy Poehler became the first winner of this award for her show, Good Hang, beating out longer-running shows like SmartLess and Call Her Daddy.
The Golden Globes kick off the Hollywood film awards season, so what does that mean for the end of it at the 98th Academy Awards? Thus far, the momentum is swinging in favor of One Battle After Another for the top prizes. PTA could finally earn a long-awaited Best Director Oscar and the film could win Best Picture. But it still has competition. Ludwig Göransson could be on the way to his third (and potentially fourth) Oscar for composing Sinners, which struck a chord with fans and critics alike.
Fans, critics, and journalists will be sitting on the edges of their seats in anticipation for how everything will shape up for the next two months of silver screen awards.
